1. Lead growth:
I want to lead the NJR through a tremendous period of growth. I will work actively to seek out schools without chapters and look for able and competent students to start them. I believe my many friends across the state from my other extracurriculars gives me ample familiarity with other schools.
2.Addressing overcrowding:
While I want growth, we certainly cannot let space be an inhibiting factor.
-During opening session: Every One Day, our attendance exceeds McCosh 50’s capacity, and it only keeps increasing. To account for this, I have been already looking into alternate venues on campus. The best option to me is Richardson Auditorium, just a short walk from McCosh hall and with a capacity to easily accommodate the NJR. If Richardson does not work out, I will work swiftly to ensure adequate overflow seating and working with directors of technology to ensure a live stream is prepared.
-During debates: Already too many debates are overcrowded. To lessen the people per debate, I will like to expand our number of debates per block. As a current NJR director of debate, I feel I could do a good job of overseeing this growth, while using my well-founded knowledge of McCosh Hall to ensure logistically people still are easily able to find their way.
3. Creating a sister chapter program in order to pair nearby chapters,
allowing for inter-chapter bonding and joint activism initiatives: The high density of chapters in the NJR gives us the unique opportunity for chapters to come together. I believe that working together, chapters in the NJR will be able to increase their outreach and notability. In this coming together, we promote inter-chapter fraternity. Furthermore, pooling resources, costs will be amortized and opportunities increased. I hope to lead the pairings and communications to ensure that even more people are able to benefit from a network of friends across the state.
4. Better integrate Princeton University with Fall One Day:
The University is a center for political thought and education. By reaching out and working with the University, I believe we can improve our One-Day experience. I meet regularly with many former JSAers on campus and have brought some of the most esteemed political minds in the nation to come lecture my chapter. I will love to extend this to the NJR, potentially arranging for a panel of lecturers to come as the keynote
-Include a debate outside (weather permitting) to capitalize on Princeton’s excellent aesthetic and demonstrate to passers by the intellectual repartee that epitomizes the Junior State.
5. Create a system for feedback:
I have always been a big believer in feedback and actively seeking ways to improve. After any NJR initiative, I will create a google survey and send it out in order to find what delegates felt was successful, and what they will like to see improved. I also will take an active role in communication with chapter presidents in order to determine ways the NJR could aid our individual chapters best.
-Using the JSAPP: I also will use the JSAPP to send out feedback questions in real time during conferences, such as How easy are you finding it is to get around? And On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most overcrowded, how crowded do you feel the rooms are?
6. Oversee a publicity campaign to boost JSA’s presence in our state:
With our countless activism initiatives and growing membership, the NJR is quite noteworthy and could benefit from a larger media presence. This will start with creating and promoting an NJR facebook page. Not only will this help us attract more affluent speakers, but also it will engender the creation of new chapters.
-Revamp the MAS Liberty: Through a little bit of thoughtful effort, I will turn the MAS Liberty into a monthly periodical of importance for youth across the region, sharing the diverse opinions of JSAers. I will reach out to CPs, encouraging chapter members to submit opinion pieces on issues of regional and national importance.
7. Add a Community Service Booth to the Activism Fair:
I personally always find service gratifying, and will love to utilize the large amount of people we have at conventions to make a positive impact. My first specific idea will be two side by side booths: One to write cards offering support to police officers, a second writing cards offering support to BLM members.
